I don’t know where you are, or who told you not to apply, but being an adjunct is not a bar in and of itself. As a matter I fact, if they offer you significantly less work in a semester than in the preceding semester, (if they slash your hours), you could very well be eligible. If they let you go completely, you need to apply immediately.

I have taught at a proprietory college for several terms but d/t budget restrictions my ‘lead instructor’ is being ordered to take over my teaching duties and I need to file for unemployment but was told I was not able to do so d/t to being an adjunce instructor…even though I worked over 490 hours/wk in the previous quarter. Any information you could share would be of help.

I wonder if we should also think about young in the labor movement in terms of seniority or maybe length of time in labor movement and not just in terms of age? Granted different generations may/will have different perspectives but at times we all agree on the issue(s). Thoughts?
